Replacing a countertop doesn’t always mean removing everything that’s already there.
In the vast majority of projects, if your existing countertop is suitable, we can install a new ¼-inch etherium® By E-Stone surface directly over it. This countertop overlay process minimizes demolition and eliminates much of the mess associated with a traditional countertop replacement.
If the existing countertop isn’t suitable for an overlay, we’ll remove it and install a new substrate before installing your new surface.
It’s a different approach to countertop remodeling—one designed to give you the finished look you want without an unnecessary tear-out.

Your etherium® By E-Stone surface is prepared specifically for your space, including cutouts and other project details.

Install Over the Existing Surface
When the existing countertop is suitable, the new ¼-inch surface is installed directly over it, minimizing demolition and reducing the disruption to your home.

Complete the Transformation
Your sink, backsplash and finishing details are completed as part of the installation, depending on your project scope.
Less Demolition
Do I Have to Remove My Existing Countertop?
Usually, no.
In the vast majority of projects, your existing countertop can remain in place and the new etherium® By E-Stone surface can be installed directly over it.
There are situations where removal is necessary—for example, if the existing countertop isn’t suitable for an overlay. In those cases, we’ll remove it and install a new substrate before installing your new countertop.
The goal is to use what you already have whenever the existing structure allows us to do so.
Sinks
Complete Your Countertop Transformation With a New Sink
A countertop project is also an opportunity to update your sink at the same time.
During installation, the existing sink is removed. You can reuse your current sink or choose a new one. TREND installs both undermount and drop-in sinks, and most of our countertop projects include a new sink.

Use the same ¼-inch engineered stone as your countertop for a coordinated, high-end look.
Tile
Choose tile for a more traditional or decorative backsplash. TREND handles the complete tile installation, including grouting.
Existing Backsplashes
What Happens to My Existing Backsplash?
Your existing backsplash doesn’t always need to be removed.
If your existing backsplash is in good condition and the new material can be installed appropriately over it, it may be possible to leave it in place.
However, if the backsplash is damaged or unsuitable—or if you’re replacing a standard 4-inch backsplash with a taller etherium® By E-Stone or tile backsplash—the existing backsplash will typically be removed before the new one is installed.
We’ll determine the best approach for your specific project during the consultation.

Can you install a new countertop over my existing countertop?
In the vast majority of projects, yes. If your existing countertop is suitable, we can install a new ¼-inch etherium® By E-Stone surface directly over it. If the existing surface isn’t suitable, we’ll remove it and install a new substrate.
What is a countertop overlay?
A countertop overlay is a new surface installed directly over an existing countertop rather than removing the entire countertop. TREND uses our proprietary ¼-inch etherium® By E-Stone for this process.
What is etherium® By E-Stone?
etherium® By E-Stone is a proprietary ¼-inch engineered stone used by TREND for countertop overlays and other applications. It is nonporous, heat resistant, stain resistant and scratch resistant, and comes with a Limited Lifetime Warranty.
Is etherium® By E-Stone the same as quartz?
No. etherium® By E-Stone is a proprietary engineered stone specifically designed for TREND’s remodeling applications and countertop overlay process. It is ¼-inch thick, rather than a conventional thick stone slab.
Can I keep my existing sink?
Yes. Your existing sink can be reused, or you can choose a new sink as part of your project. TREND installs both undermount and drop-in sinks.
Do you install backsplashes?
Yes. We offer both etherium® By E-Stone and tile backsplashes. Tile backsplash installation includes grouting.
Do I have to remove my existing backsplash?
Not necessarily. Depending on its condition and the new backsplash design, your existing backsplash may be able to remain. If it is damaged or unsuitable, or if you’re replacing a standard 4-inch backsplash with a taller backsplash, it will typically be removed.
How long does countertop installation take?
